Competing?? Does your technique need a tweak??

Coaches Eddie & Mark are always just a phone call away if you need some advice on your on technique and training.

Why not come along to our training session on a Saturday or make an appointment for a one to one or group training session for your club. A training session can be arranged at your club if you wish.

Mark and Eddie have proven their expertise by both attaining rank of Candidate for Master of Sports in a very short period of time as well as leading Claire Maidment to same recognition. They are passionate about kettlebell sports and eager for Ireland to be well represented on the worldwide stage, up there with the best.

Rankings

People training in Kettlebell Sports may wish to achieve "a rank". These are tiered ranking systems for competitors to aim to achieve throughout their training.

There are two lifts in which ranks are awarded, the Jerk/Snatch total and the Long Cycle.  See below for links to the EGSA European Girevoy Sport Association.

Irish Kettlebell Sports Championships 2011

Following on from our very successful event last July, Kilkenny Kettlebell Club hosted the second Irish Kettlebell Sports Championships on Saturday 23rd July 2011 in Kilkenny.

The Biathlon- What was involved?

This event was made up of two lifts, the jerk and the snatch. Competitors were required to perform the jerk first of all followed by the snatch after a minimum rest period of 30 minutes, maximum rest of 2 hours. Both lifts are done for a maximum of 10 minutes with the total of both lifts added together to make up your overall score.

The Jerk
The jerk is done with two bells for men and one bell for women. Women are permitted to change hands only once in 10 minutes. Proper technique is essential the kettlebell must have proper fixation overhead to be deemed a lift. Improper fixation is termed a "no lift" and is not counted. 3 no lifts in a row result in disqualification.

The Snatch
A single bell is swung from between the legs to overhead in a single movement. As with the jerk proper overhead fixation is essential.

Judging the biathlon
Rules are in line with those set by the EGSA.  A judge is allocated to each individual competitor. The Judge counts the repetitions the competitor performs. The Competitor must wait for the judges count before they proceed to the next rep. The head judge will brief competitors on the rules at the beginning of the competition.

For the competition this year winners were decided per kettlebell weight category.

Congratulations to the overall Absolute Winners Catherine Roche and Ales Muhovec  and the overall Co-efficient Winners Tajda Sobocan and Ales Muhovec.
